The Republicans Challenge Gore's Florida Victory

Upset by a decision that, in their opinion, unfairly favored Al Gore, the Republicans have decided to contest Gore's victory. While the legal actions do not come directly from the Bush campaign -- which hopes to stay aloof, akin to Nixon's behavior after the 1960 election -- the Republican Party and several Republican Floridians have filed lawsuits.

The lawsuits question the legality of certain ballot decisions that gave the election to Gore. And to back up their Florida fight, Republicans decide to contest the counts in other states, too, such as Iowa (where only about 5,000 votes separate Gore and Bush).
